Office of the Associate Vice President for HR and CHRO

Human Resource Information Systems

HRIS is responsible for the overall configuration and maintenance of all Oracle Human Capital Management (HCM) Cloud modules in iO through collaboration with all the HR functional areas as business analysts. This includes oversight of HR data integrity and stewardship, HR security access, collaboration on HCM training and process improvement initiatives, and ongoing preparation for and testing of quarterly updates from Oracle. HRIS works closely with the Rice IT HCM systems analysts to provide overall HCM platform support for analytics, reporting, workflows and security design, as well as a myriad of integrations from iO to other campus systems and external providers.

HR Service Center

The HR Service Center team members are your partners for activities such as onboarding, hiring documentation, verifications of employment, iO employee assignment transactions, immigration services, HCMI training and education, and answering service requests sent to us via email at people@rice.edu or through the HR main number.

We’re also the welcome party when you visit the HR department, so we look forward to seeing you soon!

Talent Acquisition

The Talent Acquisition Team acts as a strategic partner to departments and provides assistance to hiring teams in navigating the hiring process and identifying and hiring the best applicants. Talent Acquisition team offers several services including: pre-posting consultations, partnership with hiring teams to develop a strategic recruitment plan, assistance with interview design and planning, and training to hiring teams and administrators on the various aspects of hiring.

Total Rewards

Total Rewards is responsible for designing, managing, administering and implementing the university’s compensation and benefits programs.

The benefits team members can assist with eligibility, questions, plan changes, claims issues, processing life events, and many other concerns about Rice's benefits offerings (such as medical, dental, retirement, leaves of absence, tuition benefits and many more).

The compensation team members work with department leaders and managers to classify jobs, recommend appropriate pay levels for staff, advise job design and department reorganizations. In addition, they are responsible for administering the university’s staff job structure and pay ranges, and participate in salary surveys.

Access, Equity & Equal Opportunity

The Access, Equity & Equal Opportunity Office is a neutral and independent resource office responsible for ensuring the enforcement of the institution's anti-discrimination policies. Those policies cover topics related to sexual harassment/Title IX, discrimination, and other equal opportunity compliance mandates. Any member of the Rice community that believes they are being discriminated against or harassed in violation of Rice policy, should contact this office to learn of their options. Dr. Baker provides anti-discrimination training for thousands of employees and students and presents on the topic of equal opportunity and Title IX.

Employee Relations

The Employee Relations team provides consultative services such as conflict resolution, policy interpretation, guidance on performance management processes, and providing effective feedback.

Organizational & Talent Development

The Organizational & Talent Development team provides services such as performance management, departmental reorganizations, and the development, delivery and/or identification of training, development and coaching programs.
