Workers' Compensation Insurance

Rice University maintains workers' compensation insurance coverage to protect all faculty, staff, students, and volunteers injured during the course and scope of their normal employment. For more information about this policy, who it applies to, payment for lost time and medical benefits, restricted duty/light duty, and return to work, please refer to Workers Compensation Policy 407.

How To Report A Claim

Employees or students who sustain a work-related injury or illness must report it to their supervisor as soon as possible. Workers' Compensation Forms must be completed, signed by both the employee and supervisor, and submitted to the Workers' Compensation Specialist within 24 hours of the incident.

How to submit the forms:

Find a Medical Provider

Employees may seek treatment with any provider who accepts Workers' Compensation. For your convenience, links to providers commonly used by our employees are provided below:

In case of an emergency, dial x6000 from any on-campus phone, 713-348-6000 from any cellular phone, or use any blue-light emergency phone. If you are off-campus and need emergency assistance, dial 911 to contact the local fire/EMS department.

Concentra clinics are full-service medical facilities that provide healthcare services for workers' compensation injuries and transportation to/from any of their locations. To avoid any potential delays in treatment, please present your ID badge. You can find a clinic here and reach out to the location directly to schedule a pickup. Concentra transportation services generally operate within a 25-mile radius of their medical centers.

Travelers Insurance

Travelers serves as our insurance carrier and third-party administrator for all Workers' Compensation claims for Rice University. A representative from Travelers will reach out to you and assist in processing your claim.

Texas Workers Compensation Act

For more information about the Texas Workers Compensation Act, please refer to the Division of Workers Compensation at the Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) website at https://www.tdi.texas.gov/wc/employee/index.html.

The Office of Injured Employee Counsel (OIEC) is a state agency that provides free assistance to injured employees with workers' compensation claims. If you do not have an attorney and want help from an ombudsman, contact OIEC at 866-393-6432, ext. 44186.

Please be advised that any claim found to be fraudulent may be denied and may result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.
