January is Cervical Health Awareness Month

Cervical Health Awareness Month is a chance to share information about how women can protect themselves from HPV (human papillomavirus) and cervical cancer. More than 11,000 people in the United States are diagnosed with cervical cancer each year. The good news is that vaccination and regular screening can prevent the disease.

What Can You Do?

To start, learn about cervical health and cancer prevention. There are two important tools for prevention—HPV vaccination and regular screening.

  • Get informed. Find out the facts about cervical cancer and the human papillomavirus (HPV) that causes it. Help educate other women in your life, too.
  • Get screened. Cervical cancer screening typically starts at age 30 and is repeated periodically.
  • Get vaccinated. The HPV vaccine helps protect you against certain types of HPV that can lead to cancer.
