Purpose and Commitment

At Rice, we are dedicated to fostering an inclusive and engaging workplace where every employee feels a deep sense of belonging and understands their purpose and impact on the university’s mission. Our goal is to create an environment where employees are excited about their work and take pride in their contributions.

To achieve this, we launched a series of comprehensive satisfaction and climate surveys, The Perch Perspective, designed to assess the employee experience and drive meaningful improvements across the university.

Survey Objectives

The Perch Perspective is a vital tool for understanding employee sentiment and guiding positive change. It is designed to:

  • Empower Positive Change: Employee feedback directly informs initiatives that enhance our workplace, ensuring Rice remains an exceptional place to work.

  • Enhance Employee Satisfaction: By identifying needs and concerns, we can create a more supportive and inclusive environment.

  • Drive Innovation: Employees’ experiences and ideas fuel innovation and institutional growth.

  • Inform Future Programs: Insights from the survey help shape new programs and initiatives that position Rice as an employer of choice.

Survey Evolution and Structure

Since its launch in Spring 2024, The Perch Perspective has evolved based on campus feedback. After the initial launch, have changed the cadence to make participation more accessible and results more actionable. The next iteration is planned to take place in 2027. For 2026, we will be focusing on the communication and action planning process.

Rice HR has partnered with the Offices of Institutional Effectiveness and Transformational Technology and Innovation to administer, analyze, and synthesize survey data. Findings are shared with school and division leadership, equipping them with the insights necessary to implement meaningful changes and improvements.
